Northern Vietnam to experience new cold spell in late October

VOV.VN - Northern Vietnam is expected to experience a new cold spell of the season beginning the night of October 18, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

This weather system is forecast to intensify further on October 20 and 21, bringing cooler nighttime and early morning temperatures, particularly in mountainous areas, where it may feel chilly.

A weak cold front hit Northern Vietnam on October 13-15, bringing heavy and sending temperatures dropping slightly by only 2–3°C.

Meteorologists say starting from October, cold fronts are anticipated to increase in intensity and frequency, with stronger activity likely in November and December. Heavy cold spells could hit Northern Vietnam in late December, with the possibility of extending into February 2026.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is currently active off the coast of the Philippines and may develop into a tropical depression between October 16 and 17, which is likely to strengthen into a storm and move toward the northeastern part of the East Sea.

Weather forecasts indicate that between October 11 and November 10, there is a possibility of 2–3 storms or tropical depressions forming over the East Sea, with 1–2 potentially affecting mainland Vietnam, higher than the multi-year average.
