Cold air causes chilly weather in Northern Vietnam
VOV.VN - A strengthening cold air mass is sweeping into Hanoi and Northern Vietnam on November 12, causing temperatures in many areas to drop below 13°C, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Due to the continuous reinforcement of cold air combined with upper-level divergence, northern provinces and some north-central provinces such as Thanh Hoa and Nghe An will experience little cloud cover and sunny days from November 13-15, but nighttime temperatures will drop sharply, ranging between 16-18°C, and below 13°C in mountainous areas.
Around November 16-17, another cold front is expected to arrive, bringing further temperature drops. During the night and early morning, temperatures will fall below 16°C in mountainous areas, while daytime temperatures may stay less than 22°C.
The forecasting centre predicts that severe cold spells are likely to appear in Northern Vietnam from the second half of December and intensify between January and February 2026.
During this period, severe cold and frost may not only affect northern mountainous regions but also spread to lowland areas and north-central provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
In severe cold spells, high mountainous areas in provinces such as Cao Bang, Lao Cai, and Lang Son could experience frost, ice, and even snowfall.
