Cold air mass to bring cooler weather to northern Vietnam from October 20 night
VOV.VN - A cold air mass is moving southward and is expected to affect the northeastern region of Vietnam early on October 19, bringing cooler weather to the north, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The cold front will strengthen from October 20 to 22, expanding its influence across the entire northern region and north-central provinces before reaching parts of the northwest and central regions.
On October 18 night and 19, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the northeastern region and Hanoi, with northeasterly winds strengthening along coastal areas.
From the night of October 20, northern Vietnam will experience the first cool spell of the season. Temperatures will drop to 19-21°C in lowland areas and below 17°C in the mountains, with cold conditions at night and early morning, and chilly weather in highland areas.
At sea, from October 19, the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern part of the East Sea (South China Sea) will have strong northeasterly winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8 (39-74 km/h), with waves 2-4 meters high and rough seas.
The cold air combined with thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts, potentially disrupting farming, transportation, and daily activities. Mountainous areas are warned of flash floods and landslides, while low-lying areas may face localized flooding.
