Northern Vietnam set to enter hot spell as cold air weakens
VOV.VN - Northern Vietnam is forecast to turn sunny and warmer from March 17 as the ongoing cold air weakens, with temperatures in many areas expected to exceed 33°C.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the northern region will remain mostly cloudy with occasional rain on March 16 due to the lingering effects of weakening cold air combined with an upper-level wind convergence zone at altitudes of around 3,000–5,000 meters.
From March 17 onward, as the cold air continues to weaken and the western low-pressure area extends eastward, rainfall across northern Vietnam is anticipated to largely end. Sunny conditions will become more common and temperatures will gradually increase in the following days.
Daytime temperatures in many northern localities are forecast to exceed 33°C during the coming week.
In Hanoi, temperatures are expected to range between 21°C and 28°C over the next week. Meanwhile, in high mountainous areas above 1,500 meters such as Sa Pa in Lao Cai province, nighttime temperatures will stay relatively cool at 12–13°C, while daytime temperatures are forecast to rise to 21–23°C as sunny weather develops.
In the central region, scattered showers may occur early on March 16. Areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue, as well as the south-central coastal region, are expected to experience mainly sunny weather with gradually rising daytime temperatures.
Between March 17 and 22, dry conditions will dominate across the region, with daytime temperatures generally ranging from 29°C to 32°C.
Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam are set to see little rain from now through the weekend, with sunny conditions prevailing. Maximum temperatures in the Central Highlands will range from 29°C to 32°C, while the southern region could see temperatures around 33–35°C.
From around March 18, widespread heat is likely to develop across Southeast Vietnam and persist through the end of the week. Maximum temperatures in the region are expected to reach 35–37°C, while the Mekong Delta could see highs of 35–36°C. Temperatures in the Central Highlands are also forecast to rise to 30–33°C.
