Local infection tally close to 9,000 in latest COVID-19 wave
VOV.VN - A total of 81 fresh domestic cases were confirmed positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Ministry of Health in the current hotspots of Bac Giang and Ho Chi Minh City on June 18 morning, raising the national local infection tally to 8,994 in the latest coronavirus wave.
The new cases in the northern province of Bac Giang are associated with outbreaks in quarantined areas and industrial parks.
Among 60 cases found in Ho Chi Minh City, 51 are F1 contacts, 4 are linked to the Christian mission cluster that emerged late last month and five are under epidemiological investigation.
One day earlier, the number of fresh COVID-19 cases in Vietnam hit a record high of 515 since the resurgence of the virus nearly two months ago, including 135 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The number of recoveries rose to 4,653 after a further 63 coronavirus patients were given the all-clear on June 13. The number of fatalities stays at 61.
Elsewhere, Hanoi is set to conduct quick COVID-19 tests on returnees from Ho Chi Minh City at Noi Bai International Airport, according to the municipal Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The measure, to be conducted during the next four to five days, is part of the city's domestic COVID-19 screening program, especially amid Ho Chi Minh City’s worrying coronavirus situation.
An additional 200,263 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on June 18 alone in 51 provinces and cities throughout the nation.
Nationwide, over 1.9 million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, mainly frontline coronavirus fighters.
The country has recorded close to 9,000 local cases in 40 cities and provinces in the latest coronavirus wave beginning from April 27.
