COVID-19: 24-hour caseload in Vietnam reaches record high at 515
VOV.VN - Vietnam has confirmed an additional 136 coronavirus cases during the past six hours, raising its 24-hour count to 515, a record high figure so far, the Ministry of Health said in its 06.00pm COVID-19 update on June 17.
About 133 locally acquired cases were newly detected in five localities, and three imported cases were logged in Tay Ninh province, said the MoH.
Of the newly detected cases, 62 cases each were documented in Bac Giang and Ho Chi Minh City, six in Bac Ninh, two in Ha Tinh and one in Lang Son.
Most of the local infections were recorded in quarantine and lockdown areas.
Three people tested positive after returning to Vietnam via the Moc Bai International Bordergate in Tay Ninh province that borders Cambodia.
The new cases have raised the daily caseload to 515, including 503 locally acquired infections and 12 imported cases.
Bac Giang, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, took the lead with 327 cases, followed by Ho Chi Minh City (137), Tien Giang (13) Bac Ninh (12), Binh Duong (7), Ha Tinh (4), Lang Son (2) and Nghe An (1).
The SARS-CoV-2 virus has since its resurgence in late April spread to 40 cities and provinces across the country, with nearly 9,000 cases confirmed.
Overall, Vietnam has logged a total of 12,150 cases, both locally transmitted and imported infections, since the SARS – CoV - 2 virus emerged in January 2020.
Sixty-one COVID-19 deaths have been reported, including 26 cases during the latest outbreak.
More than 4,600 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.
