Deadly apartment fire kills 8 in Ho Chi Minh City
VOV.VN - A devastating fire broke out at a ground-floor apartment in a residential complex in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City, on July 6 evening, claiming eight lives, said local authorities.

The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m., with the fire starting on the ground floor of Block A of the Doc Lap apartment complex, a five-story building.
Residents raised the alarm and attempted to extinguish the flame using mini fire extinguishers but were unsuccessful. The fire quickly intensified, accompanied by multiple explosions, causing panic among residents who fled the building.
Upon receiving the emergency call, the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Prevention and Rescue Police dispatched several fire engines and dozens of firefighters to the scene to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.
Due to the structure of the complex, which included multiple layers of metal doors, access to the fire was difficult. The blaze destroyed numerous vehicles, including motorbikes, bicycles, and cars.
Authorities confirmed that eight people, including two children, died in the fire. The victims’ bodies were transferred to Thong Nhat Hospital and Tan Phu Hospital for forensic procedures.
By around 11:00 p.m., the fire was fully extinguished. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are under investigation by local authorities.
The Doc Lap apartment complex consists of Blocks A and B, each five stories tall with over 100 units per block.
In a telegram dated July 7, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh extended his deepest condolences and sympathy to the victims’ families.
He requested that the Ho Chi Minh City administration promptly visit and support the victims' families, both materially and emotionally, and provide all necessary conditions to help them stabilise their lives as soon as possible.
He asked the city to work closely with the Ministry of Public Security to urgently investigate the cause of the fire and strictly handle any violations by organisations or individuals involved, in accordance with the law.
On July 7 morning, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc visited the scene of a devastating fire and directed relevant agencies to urgently investigate and clarify the cause of the fire.
