Fires claim 39 lives across Vietnam in first five months 2025
VOV.VN - As many as 1,500 fires and explosions were reported across Vietnam in the first five months of 2025, resulting in 39 deaths and 39 injuries, according to the Department of Fire Prevention and Rescue.

The blazes caused estimated property damage of approximately VND138.16 billion and scorched over 216 hectares of forest. The data also revealed 11 explosions during the same period, which killed five people, injured 14 others, and caused around VND50 million in damage.
Urban areas accounted for the majority of fire incidents, with 821 cases (54.8%), while rural areas saw 676 cases (45.2%). House fires represented the largest proportion, totaling 539 incidents or 36% of all cases.
Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of fires decreased by 485. However, while the death toll remained unchanged, the number of injuries rose by 11, and property damage increased by nearly VND4.9 billion. Explosions were also more frequent, with three additional incidents, resulting in four more fatalities and six more injuries than last year.
Electrical short circuits were responsible for 73.6% of the fires, followed by negligence in handling fire or heat sources.
The Department of Fire Prevention and Rescue noted that incidents were concentrated in urban areas and fast-developing localities with high levels of industrial activity, urbanisation, and dense networks of businesses.
