Forest fire fully contained overnight in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - Local authorities confirmed that a large forest fire that broke out on June 30 evening on Ban Co Mountain in Quynh Phu commune, Nghe An province, was completely extinguished by midnight after hours of intense firefighting efforts.

At approximately 6:00 PM on June 30, local residents spotted thick smoke and flames rising from the foothills of Ban Co Mountain, an area with dense eucalyptus and pine forests. Fueled by dry vegetation and strong coastal winds, the fire quickly spread across a wide area.
Immediately after receiving news of the fire, hundreds of personnel from the local armed forces, border guard units and residents were mobilised to the scene. Despite the rugged terrain, dense underbrush, and strong sea breezes, teams worked throughout the night to cut firebreaks and contain the flames.
At around 11:30 PM, the fire was fully brought under control, preventing it from spreading to a neighbouring pine forest.
Officials said that Ban Co Mountain, located near the coast, contains nearly 30 hectares of eucalyptus and pine trees, making it one of the high-risk wildfire zones during Vietnam’s dry season.
According to the North Nghe An Forest Protection Management Board, Quynh Luu district is home to 600–700 hectares of pine forest spanning across communes such as Quynh Nghia, Quynh Thuan, Tien Thuy, Ngoc Son, and Quynh Tan.
These areas are considered critical fire-prone zones during the dry season due to their mountainous terrain, accumulation of dried pine needles, and frequent southwesterly (foehn) winds that rapidly spread flames.
Local authorities continue to urge communities to remain vigilant and enhance awareness of forest fire prevention and firefighting measures, especially during peak dry seasons.
