Data from the MoH show Vietnam has recorded 3,416 new cases from 06.00pm on July 14 to 07.00pm on July 15. HCM City is the hardest hit locality, registering 2,691 locally transmitted cases, making up four fifths of the total.
The city, the busiest and most populous in Vietnam, has imposed two-week social distancing with tighter prevention measures as of 00.00 on July 9, aiming to slow the spread of the virus.
Nguyen Thanh Phong, head of the HCM City administration, said he did not rule out the possibility of cross infection of the virus in the quarantine facilities, citing the fact that between 3 to 8% of the cases resulted from cross infection in these facilities.
“One of the city’s primary goals is to treat critically ill cases with underlying illnesses and minimize deaths,” Phong said on July 15, adding that he has asked the municipal Department of Health to implement the Ministry of Health’s recently-issued COVID-19 treatment guidelines by shortening the treatment period for asymptomatic F0 cases.
Overall, Vietnam has documented 37,288 positive cases following the resurgence of the virus on April 27, and 40,850 cases since the virus attacked the nation in January 2020.
As many as 9,688 patients have recovered from the disease, and 207 patients have died of COVID-19 and other underlying illnesses.
