Protecting people’s health top priority in COVID-19 fight, says PM

VOV.VN - The Government is determined to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in localities nationwide, including southern and central provinces, especially Ho Chi Minh City, considering protecting people’s health to be a top priority, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Addressing an online meeting held on July 15 between the Government and 27 southern localities, Chinh said the Government is paying special attention to the complicated developments of the fresh coronavirus outbreak in central and southern region, that has affected business production and the life of millions of workers and local people.

Data from the Ministry of Health show as of 06.00am on July 15 Vietnam has recorded approximately 34,000 new locally-transmitted cases during the current outbreak which began in late April. Most of the cases were documented in southern localities, with Ho Chi Minh City alone registering close to 20,000 cases.

The fresh outbreak has also claimed 100 lives over the past two and a half months, mostly in the southern region.

Worthy of note is that the Delta variant, a mutated stain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus first identified in India has spread to wholesale markets, industrial parks, and crowded residential areas in the region, making it difficult for prevention and control work.

To swiftly contain the fresh outbreak, PM Pham Minh Chinh requested that the localities quickly localize, test and isolate cases, focus on timely and effective treatment of patients in order to minimize deaths, and carry out a timely, safe, and effective vaccination campaign.

It is imperative to take care of local people to ensure no one will be left hungry, and to maintain security and order at any cost, said the PM.

He asked the localities to immediately set up relief centers, hotlines and volunteer groups to support people in need. He requested relevant ministries, agencies and the localities to work out solutions to avoid traffic congestion, and provide adequate essential goods for people in epidemic areas.

Measures should be adopted to firmly protect industrial parks and maintain production and supply chains both national and globally, stressed the PM.

He also reminded the localities to tighten control along borders to prevent the virus penetrating the local community.
