94 more cases raise daily tally to 311, mostly in current hotspots

VOV.VN - An additional 94 new domestic cases were confirmed positive for the SARS-CoV-2-virus by the Ministry of Health on June 20 evening, bringing the daily infection count to 311, with Ho Chi Minh City and Bac Giang province reporting the most infections at 137, and 96.

Of the new infections, 281 were found in quarantine facilities or locked-down areas.

June 20 is also the fourth day in a row that Ho Chi Minh City has recorded more than 100 coronavirus infections per day.

Most of the new cases in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are linked to outbreaks in the provinces' industrial parks and other quarantine and locked down areas.

The majority of the new cases in Ho Chi Minh are associated with the Revival Ekklesia Mission and are being contact traced, while those in other localities came into contact with infected patients and are under epidemiological investigation.

The nation has so far logged a total of 9,943 cases of local transmission in the latest coronavirus wave that hit the nation nearly two months ago.

The same day, a further 175 patients were declared free from the virus, boosting the total recoveries to 5,229, while the death toll has increased to 66 following the confirmation of two COVID-19 fatalities.

Vietnam is accelerating the COVID-19 vaccination campaign as well as greater efforts to secure 150 million vaccine doses this year for the target of inoculating 70% of its population to achieve herd immunity in 2021.

As of June 20 morning, nearly 2.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been rolled out in the country, with 115,315 people having received full two doses, according to the Ministry of Health.
