Voters express confidence in new leadership, expect bold reforms

VOV.VN - Following the election of key state leadership positions for the 2026–2031 term by the National Assembly, including the election of Party General Secretary To Lam as State President, voters across Vietnam have expressed strong consensus and confidence in the country’s leadership consolidation.

Many believed this development marks not only a significant milestone in high-level personnel organisation but also a strategic step toward streamlining the political system, enhancing leadership effectiveness, and ensuring greater consistency in governance.

Strong public confidence in leadership consolidation

In the northern port city of Hai Phong, voter Vu Huu Huynh of Le Chan ward emphasised that combining the roles of Party leader and Head of State would strengthen Vietnam’s position on the international stage.

“When the Party leader also serves as Head of State, Vietnam’s position in international negotiations will be elevated… enabling swift and accurate decision-making to remove barriers and drive national development.”

Similarly, voters in northern Thai Nguyen province voiced their support for the consolidation of the General Secretary and State President roles, considering it an appropriate step in the current national context that would reinforce centralised, unified leadership and enable more flexible and effective governance.

“The unification of the General Secretary and President roles is aligned with practical demands, helping to enhance centralised, consistent, and flexible leadership, especially in the context of deeper global integration,” stated Phan Long Hoang, a voter of Bac Kan ward, Thai Nguyen province.

Many voters said the consolidation would improve leadership effectiveness, ensure consistency between Party leadership and State governance, and allow policies to be implemented faster and more effectively in line with real conditions.

“This arrangement ensures greater coherence between Party leadership and State governance, allowing policies to be implemented more quickly, synchronously, and effectively,” Duong Thi Lan, a voter of Vo Nhai commune, Thai Nguyen province, told VOV.

High expectations for reforms and sustainable growth

Beyond expressing confidence, voters also conveyed strong expectations for the new term. Voter Vo Thi Cam Tu from the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho highlighted the need for continued focus on social welfare.

“We hope Party and State leaders will continue to prioritise social security and improve living standards, particularly in rural and ethnic minority areas,” she said.

The election by the 16th National Assembly of key State leadership positions, including the State President, the Chairman of the National Assembly, and the Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term, also drew significant attention from residents in the Central Highlands region.

Hoang Canh, a retired pensioner from Buon Ma Thuot ward, Dak Lak province, noted that General Secretary and State President To Lsm had committed to achieving the ambitious development goals marking the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party by 2030 and the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day by 2045, while mobilising the entire Party, armed forces, and people to build a strategically self-reliant economy.

He expressed hope that national development achievements would benefit citizens more broadly.

“We hope the leadership will place national and people’s interests above all else and effectively implement major development goals,” he said.

In Gia Lai province, Kieu Nghi, a local resident of Pleiku ward, praised the high level of consensus in leadership elections and expressed expectations for reforms.

“Leaders should continue innovating, removing bottlenecks, and issuing timely policies to boost socio-economic development and improve people’s livelihoods,” he proposed.

Nguyen Phuoc Hoi, another resident of Gia Lai province, added that stronger policies are needed to promote green growth, sustainable tourism, digital transformation, and education access for young people in disadvantaged areas.

“We hope for stronger policy decisions to promote green economic development and sustainable tourism, creating more job opportunities for local youth after the administrative merger. Given local conditions, I believe Party and State leaders should continue to advance digital transformation and improve the quality of education, so that young people in disadvantaged areas have better opportunities to develop and contribute to the country,” Hoi said.

New breakthroughs for Vietnam

Voters also placed high expectations on the Government under Prime Minister Le Minh Hung following his election on April 7. According to Doan Minh Long, chairman of the Khanh Hoa province Journalists Association, as the country enters a new phase of development, the head of government needs to adopt decisive measures to drive economic growth, improve people’s livelihoods, and create a more favourable environment for business and production activities. Enhancing governance efficiency, strengthening administrative discipline, listening to grassroots opinions, and ensuring social stability will help reinforce public trust and lay a solid foundation for sustainable national development.

“What we hope most is that the Prime Minister will achieve new breakthroughs in institutional reform, by removing legal bottlenecks to unlock all resources for socio-economic development. At the same time, the new Prime Minister should act decisively, stay close to the people, exercise hands-on leadership, listen to grassroots feedback, and firmly safeguard national defence and security, maintain peace, and protect the country’s territorial integrity,” Long said.

Meanwhile, voter Nguyen Le, a resident of Cat Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City, shared that in the current context, people are in need of a government leader with strong economic expertise. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has held various positions and brings extensive experience, particularly from many years in the banking sector.

Le expressed his expectation that, in the new term, the Prime Minister will steer the economy toward more positive and sustainable outcomes, while introducing policies to further support the development of Ho Chi Minh City.

“As a resident of Ho Chi Minh City, I hope the Government will give due attention to developing the city as a major growth pole of the country. Following administrative restructuring, Ho Chi Minh City has the largest economic scale and state budget revenue. It should be positioned as a leading engine of national growth, helping drive the country’s economy to stronger development in the years ahead,” he told VOV.

The strong consensus among voters reflects not only confidence in the newly consolidated leadership but also high expectations for a new phase of bold reforms. Citizens hoped that the leadership would stay close to the people, responsive to practical needs, and capable of making timely and effective decisions to ensure rapid and sustainable national development in the years ahead.
