Tran Thanh Man elected NA Chairman for 16th term
VOV.VN - Politburo member, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly (NA) and deputy to the 16th National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, was elected Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 16th term on April 6 during the first session of the 16th legislature.
Le Quang Manh, Secretary-General of the National Assembly and head of the National Assembly Office, presented a draft resolution on the election of the NA Chairman.
The draft resolution stated that, based on the Constitution, relevant laws and the vote-count record, the NA resolved to elect Tran Thanh Man, a Politburo member, chairman of the 15th National Assembly and a deputy to the 16th National Assembly, as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 16th term. The NA approved the resolution via an electronic voting system.
The result showed that 491 out of 491 deputies present voted in favour, and the resolution was passed. After being elected, Tran Thanh Man took the oath of office.
Under the national flag of Vietnam, before the National Assembly and voters nationwide, he pledged absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and pledged to fulfil the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State and the people.
Tran Thanh Man was born in 1962 and is from Thanh Xuan commune, Can Tho City. He holds a doctorate in economics and a bachelor’s degree in political theory. He is a Politburo member, Secretary of the National Assembly Party Committee and NA Chairman.
He was an alternate member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th tenure; a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th tenures; a member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in the 12th tenure; and a Politburo member in the 13th and 14th tenures. He has been a NA deputy in the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th terms.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his wish that the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat, headed by Party General Secretary To Lam, continue to pay attention to and lead and direct the activities of the National Assembly. He also called on current and former Party and State leaders, as well as the Vietnam Fatherland Front, to continue to provide feedback and support for the NA’s activities.
He further expressed his hope that NA deputies and agencies, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Government, committees, ministries and sectors, agencies, organisations and units, and localities would continue to coordinate closely, promptly and effectively.
He also called for continued accompaniment and support from voters and people nationwide, overseas Vietnamese, international friends, notables, intellectuals, scientists, religious dignitaries and press agencies, thus enabling the 16th National Assembly to fulfil the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State and the people, together with the entire Party, people and armed forces, to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and realise the aspiration of building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, strong, civilised and happy Vietnam, firmly advancing towards socialism.
