Newly-elected PM vows rapid and sustainable national development

VOV.VN - Addressing the National Assembly on April 7, newly-elected Prime Minister Le Minh Hung pledged absolute loyalty to the nation and the people, committing his government to a modern, proactive, and people-centred administration aimed at achieving rapid, sustainable, and inclusive development for 2026–2031.

The Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the National Assembly for entrusting him with the nation’s highest executive role. He emphasised that this honour carries immense responsibility toward the country, the people, and the urgent demands of Vietnam’s development.

Highlighting the vision set by the 14th National Party Congress, he called for a historic breakthrough, aiming not only for growth and international integration, but for an elevated global standing, sustainable development, and improved quality of life for all citizens.

The Prime Minister outlined five strategic priorities for the government, focusing on building a modern, effective, and lean administration that serves the people. He stressed the importance of reviewing and reforming legal frameworks, cutting unnecessary administrative procedures, eliminating bottlenecks, and mobilising all social resources.

Every member of the Government, he said, must align words with actions, manage with modern governance principles, and act proactively in all situations.

Economic growth will be a top priority, with a target of more than 10% average GDP growth per year during the term. Science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation are identified as key drivers for rapid productivity growth, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy. Infrastructure development will be modern and integrated, emphasizing green transformation and climate adaptation.

The state economy will maintain a central role, while the private sector will be empowered as a key driver of growth, ensuring equitable opportunities for all regions, enterprises, and citizens.

Human capital development, education reform, healthcare access, and social welfare are central to the government’s vision.

The Prime Minister also underscored the need to invest in high-quality human resources, nurture talent, and strengthen public health systems to provide quality care at the grassroots level. Cultural development, national defence, security, and an independent, proactive foreign policy will also be prioritised to bolster Vietnam’s international position.

Empowering local governments is another core focus. Prime Minister Hung urged authorities to act decisively where they can achieve faster and more effective results, fostering initiative, flexibility, and accountability at the grassroots level, with citizen and business satisfaction as key performance measures.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister affirmed the Government’s commitment to integrity, discipline, unity, and responsibility. Echoing President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching that “Our Government is the Government of the people, with a single purpose of wholeheartedly serving the interests of the people,” he pledged to lead Vietnam into a period of breakthrough development, prosperity, and happiness for all people.
