Politburo member Le Minh Hung elected as new Prime Minister for 2026–2031 term
VOV.VN - The National Assembly of Vietnam elected Politburo member Le Minh Hung as Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term, at the plenary session in Hanoi on April 7.
Hung, who is also Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, was elected with 495 out of 495 votes in favour, representing 100% of attending deputies.
Following the National Assembly’s approval of the resolution, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man invited newly elected Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to take the oath of office.
Standing before the national flag, he pledged to remain absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, the People, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to strive to fulfill all duties entrusted by the Party, the State, and the People.
Born in 1970 in central Ha Tinh province, Hung holds a Master’s degree in public policy, with advanced political theory training and academic background in public policy and French.
He previously served as Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam from 2016 to 2020, overseeing key monetary and financial reforms.
He later held senior Party positions, including Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, before being elected to the Politburo in 2026.
He is also a member of the National Assembly and is experienced in macroeconomic governance and institutional reform.
The election is part of the National Assembly’s first-session agenda to finalise key leadership positions for Vietnam’s 2026–2031 government term.
