PM urges completion of 3,000 km of expressways by the end of 2025
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has reaffirmed the urgent need to complete at least 3,000 km of expressways by the end of 2025, a critical target set by the 13th National Party Congress.

Addressing a six-month review meeting of the State Steering Committee for Key National Transport Projects in Hanoi on July 31, the Prime Minister underscored that infrastructure development is one of Vietnam’s three strategic breakthroughs, and it must “go first” to pave the way for growth, reduce costs for businesses and citizens, and increase the country’s overall competitiveness.
With only five months remaining until the end of 2025 and a significant workload ahead, he requested all relevant ministries, sectors and localities to demonstrate high determination, strong effort, and decisive action. He highlighted the recently launched national campaign of "500 days and nights of emulation to complete 3,000 km of expressways" as a vital initiative to help reach the target.
“We must race against time with utmost determination and responsibility to accomplish the 3,000 km expressway goal,” stressed the Prime Minister, who is also head of the State Steering Committee.
He requested that relevant authorities continue amending regulations, optimising funding allocation, and removing procedural bottlenecks to maintain the momentum of key infrastructure projects.
The Ministry of Construction, acting as the standing agency of the Steering Committee, was tasked with reporting the committee’s achievements in the first half of 2025 and outlining proposed solutions for outstanding issues. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs is to present a preliminary review of the 500-day campaign and prepare for its final evaluation.
Local authorities, especially those overseeing national key projects, must intensify efforts in site clearance, relocation of technical infrastructure, resettlement of construction material issues, and investment management under the new two-tier local government model which began operation one month ago.
So far this year, the State Steering Committee for Key National Transport Projects has convened four sessions. Major national goals include completing an additional 1,000 km of expressways to exceed 3,000 km by the end of 2025, adding to the 2,021 km expressways already completed by the end of 2024. Other goals are making substantial progress on Long Thanh International Airport, investing in 1,000 km of coastal roads, and completing Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
