PM shows resolve to meet 3,000km expressway construction target this year
VOV.VN - Efforts must be intensified to achieve the goal of having at least 3,000 km of expressways and 1,000 km of coastal roads, so as to basically complete the expressway route from Cao Bang province in the north to Ca Mau in the south by the end of 2025, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Chinh was speaking at the 16th meeting of the State Steering Committee for nationally significant projects and key transport infrastructure in Hanoi on March 9.
He emphasized that Vietnam is currently undertaking multiple major and important tasks simultaneously, including the goal of achieving GDP growth of at least 8% in 2025.
One of the key strategies to meet the goal, according to the PM, is to focus resources on completing a modern and synchronized strategic infrastructure system, by unlocking and efficiently utilizing public investment, serving as a catalyst for private investment. With regard to public investment, he reminded, transport infrastructure accounts for a significant proportion.
He stressed that, by 2025, besides completing 3,000 km of expressways and 1,000 km of coastal roads, major transport projects, including Long Thanh Airport, Terminal 3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport, and Lach Huyen Port, should be substantially completed. Some projects originally scheduled for 2027 could be finished earlier if favourable conditions allow.
The government leader directed ministries, agencies, and local authorities to finalize the allocation of the entire 2025 state budget investment plan by March 15, 2025.
If the allocation is not completed on time, the government will withdraw unallocated funds and reallocate them to priority projects, he said, adding officials responsible for delays will be held accountable.
The PM instructed relevant units to strengthen supervision and inspection of construction quality, ensure project timelines and investment efficiency, and prioritize environmental protection and resettlement support for affected residents.
He also revealed, the government aims to cut an additional 10% of regular expenditures in 2025 compared to the budget estimate to prioritize funding for the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway project.
Accelerating and completing strategic transport projects is crucial in celebrating the grassroots-level Party Congress, leading up to the 14th National Party Congress, as well as major national anniversaries in 2025, he stressed.
He urged ministries, sectors, and localities to review ongoing projects, and report obstacles that need resolution, particularly regarding materials for key transport projects in the Mekong Delta, land acquisition, relocation of technical infrastructure, project approval procedures, as well as construction progress.
