PM calls for breakthrough policies for special economic zones in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for policies to maximise the unique potential, outstanding opportunities and competitive advantages of the country’s key special economic zones in order to create new drivers of economic growth.
Chairing a meeting of standing members of the government in Hanoi on March 16, the Prime Minister asked relevant ministries and agencies to further refine a proposal assessing development strategies for special economic zones including Van Don, Van Phong and Phu Quoc.
He emphasised the need to follow the policy orientations of the Politburo while proposing pilot mechanisms and breakthrough policies tailored to each zone’s specific conditions. The aim, he said, is to allow these economic zones to fully leverage their distinctive potential and strategic advantages, turning them into growth engines for localities, regions and the national economy.
During the meeting, the government also reviewed progress in addressing delayed and inefficient industrial and trade projects. The Prime Minister instructed relevant ministries, agencies and enterprises to continue implementing concrete solutions and complete the handling of remaining projects using mechanisms already approved by competent authorities.
The Government also discussed several other policy issues aimed at unlocking resources and supporting economic development. These included preparations for a project supporting infrastructure and technical assistance for high-quality, low-emission rice production in the Mekong Delta using loans from the World Bank.
In addition, delegates reviewed a draft decree designed to resolve bottlenecks affecting build-operate-transfer (BOT) transport projects and discussed plans to settle outstanding health insurance payments for medical services incurred before 2025.
The government also assessed progress in issuing detailed regulations and guidelines for laws and resolutions that have already taken effect, aiming to ensure their timely and effective implementation.
