Party chief urges overseas Vietnamese to remain bridge for national development
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on February 8 called on the overseas Vietnamese community to continue serving as an important bridge and source of strength for the country’s development, particularly in key sectors of the new development phase.
Speaking at a meeting with more than 100 overseas Vietnamese representatives from over 40 countries and territories attending the “Homeland Spring 2026” programme, the leader asked the community to stay united, respect the laws of host countries, preserve and promote Vietnamese cultural identity, and contribute knowledge, experience and resources to national development.
The Party chief reaffirmed that the Party and State consistently regard overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation and a particularly important resource within the great national unity bloc.
Protecting the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese and creating favourable conditions for them to integrate into host societies while maintaining strong ties with their homeland remain a consistent policy, he said.
The top leader reviewed Vietnam’s recent achievements, which he said are the result of the combined will of the Party and the people, including the shared contributions of Vietnamese citizens at home and abroad. He described the growing participation of overseas Vietnamese in major national events as vivid evidence of national solidarity and the principle that “Vietnam is one nation, and the Vietnamese people are one.”
The Party leader encouraged overseas Vietnamese to continue preserving the Vietnamese language and cultural traditions for future generations, actively promote Vietnam’s image internationally, and contribute initiatives, expertise and global experience to the country’s socio-economic development and international integration.
He added that the Party and State welcome and will continue to facilitate greater participation by overseas Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, scientists and entrepreneurs in national development, while further improving policies related to overseas Vietnamese and strengthening international cooperation to safeguard their legitimate interests.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026, the Party leader extended his best wishes to overseas Vietnamese and their families, expressing hope that ties between Vietnamese communities at home and abroad would continue to grow stronger in the shared effort to build a prosperous and happy Vietnam.
The event, held at the Party Central Committee headquarters, was organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of the Lunar New Year of the Horse.
