President joins overseas Vietnamese in incense-offering ceremony in Hanoi
VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong and his spouse, together with leaders of ministries, Hanoi authorities and more than 100 overseas Vietnamese, attended an incense-offering ceremony at the Ly Thai To Statue and Ngoc Son Temple in Hanoi downtown on February 8.
The event is part of the “Homeland Spring 2026” programme, jointly organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hanoi People’s Committee, aiming to reaffirm national unity and the role of overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the nation.
In a solemn atmosphere, the President and delegates paid tribute to King Ly Thai To and past generations who founded and safeguarded Thang Long–Hanoi, a city of a thousand years of history, while offering prayers for national peace, prosperity and sustainable development as Vietnam enters a new phase of development.
Following the ceremony, the President and overseas Vietnamese representatives released carp into Hoan Kiem Lake, ahead of the traditional Kitchen Gods Day on the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month (February 10). The ritual symbolises perseverance, aspiration and the pursuit of success in Vietnamese culture.
In warm exchanges with the overseas community, President Luong Cuong expressed appreciation for Vietnamese expatriates worldwide for their continued attachment to the homeland and extended New Year wishes of health, prosperity and success.
Many overseas Vietnamese said they were deeply moved to return home during the Lunar New Year period, witnessing Vietnam’s rapid development and reaffirming their commitment to preserving cultural identity and contributing to national progress.
Earlier, overseas Vietnamese delegates paid respects at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial on Bac Son Street in Hanoi.
The Homeland Spring 2026 programme is running from February 6–9, bringing together around 1,500 overseas Vietnamese in Hanoi and neighbouring Ninh Binh province. The event is held following the success of the 14th National Party Congress, marking a new stage in Vietnam’s development.
Overseas Vietnamese are returning to the fatherland for the traditional Lunar New Year holiday that lasts from February 14 - 22 this year.
