Vietnamese expatriates in Austria celebrates early Lunar New Year

VOV.VN - The Embassy of Vietnam in Austria, in coordination with the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee, recently hosted a Lunar New Year 2026 celebration in Vienna for the Vietnamese community there.

The get-together, attended by staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, representatives of the Lao Embassy in Austria, the Austria–Vietnam Friendship Association, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates living, studying and working in Austria, highlighted traditional Vietnamese cultural values, leaving a strong impression on participants.

In his remarks, Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang underscored the profound significance of the Lunar New Year as a time of reunion, solidarity, shared affection and hope for a prosperous year ahead. He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese community of more than six million people across more than 130 countries and territories, including Austria, remains an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation and an important source of knowledge and strength for national development.

The ambassador also welcomed the recent establishment of the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee in Austria, describing it as a reflection of the community’s unity and mutual support, as well as its active contributions to the host country and to Vietnam, particularly through humanitarian assistance, cultural preservation and Vietnamese language education.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Dinh Thi Kim Dung, a representative of the liaison committee, noted that the event provided a valuable opportunity for reunion, cultural exchange and the preservation of Vietnamese identity abroad.

The celebration featured a warm and joyful atmosphere, with traditional music and dance performances presented by community members, alongside classic Vietnamese dishes such as bánh chưng (square sticky rice cake), fried spring rolls and sticky rice, helping ease homesickness for those living far from home.

The evening concluded with guests raising a toast to the New Year, wishing health, good fortune and success for all.
