Overseas Vietnamese in Australia celebrate Tet with Hue royal court music

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney, Australia, on February 1 hosted a gathering to welcome the coming Lunar New Year of the Horse, with the festive atmosphere made even more special by performances of UNESCO-recognsed Hue Royal Court Music.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Nguyen Thanh Tung highlighted Vietnam’s key achievements in 2025, including maintaining GDP growth of over 8% and total import-export turnover of around US$930 billion.

He also announced that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam had been successfully held, electing a new leadership with strategic vision and strong reform resolve, thereby laying a solid political foundation for the country to enter a new era of development, deeper integration and prosperity.

The diplomat confirmed that Vietnam–Australia relations continued to deepen in 2025, stressing the important role played by nearly 200,000 Vietnamese living in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland in promoting bilateral ties. He expressed appreciation to the community for its practical contributions toward the homeland, including fundraising and support for people affected by natural disasters, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition of solidarity and compassion.

More than 300 overseas Vietnamese from New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia attended this year’s Tet gathering, enjoying traditional music, cuisine and cultural activities in a warm and festive atmosphere.

Participants had a chance to taste traditional food, watch Ao Dai (Vietnamese long dress) fashion show, and enjoy Hue royal court music performances by artists from the Theatre of Hue Traditional and Royal Art.

On this occasion, Consul General Tung awarded certificates of merit to some individuals and organisations including the Vietnam-Australia Scholars & Experts Association (VASEA), the Vietnam - Australia Cultural Exchange Organisation (VACEO), and the Vietnamese Students' Association of New South Wales (VSA NSW), for their contributions to the development of the Vietnamese community in Australia and the relationship between Vietnam and Australia.
