Xi Jinping’s Vietnam visit exceeds expectations, says Chinese scholar
VOV.VN - Professor Xu Liping, director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), described Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping’s recent Vietnam visit as the most successful visit to date, with outstanding and far-reaching outcomes.

Xu, in an interview granted to Beijing-based VOV correspondents on April 15, noted that one of the most notable results was the establishment of a bilateral government-level railway cooperation committee, laying the groundwork for a cross-border high-speed rail line.
This marks an unprecedented step in bilateral relations as it will not only boost connectivity between the two countries but also elevate Vietnam’s strategic position in the Southeast Asian region, said the Professor.
During the visit, the two sides signed 45 cooperation documents spanning a wide range of fields, including infrastructure, digital economy, artificial intelligence, green energy, human resources training, culture, public welfare, and customs quarantine. These agreements reflect the increasing breadth and depth of Vietnam–China relations, he said.
Xu praised the high-level reception Vietnam offered to the Chinese leader, calling it a clear demonstration of mutual respect and strategic alignment between the two Parties and States.
It’s noteworthy that this marks Xi’s fourth visit to Vietnam, following the recent visit of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam to China, highlighting how top-level exchanges are becoming institutionalised, strategically guiding bilateral ties, he stated.
Another important aspect is the enhancement of youth exchanges through initiatives like the ‘Red Journey’ youth initiative that invites Vietnamese youth to explore China’s revolutionary heritage. These efforts aim to deepen mutual understanding and people-to-people ties, particularly among younger generations.
During the visit, Xi also affirmed China’s readiness to increase imports of high-quality Vietnamese agricultural products, presenting major opportunities for Vietnam’s agricultural modernization and deeper integration into regional supply chains.
This visit has advanced the Vietnam–China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level, making it deeper, more substantive, and more effective. It lays a solid foundation for long-term, stable cooperation between the two nations amid ongoing regional and global uncertainties, the professor concluded.
Chinese Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping left Hanoi on April 15 afternoon, concluding his two-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong.
