Vietnam promotes defense cooperation to address global security challenges
VOV.VN - Vietnam actively promotes external relations, including defense cooperation, to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and trust, while jointly addressing common security and safety challenges, preventing conflicts, and ensuring peace in line with international law.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 in Hanoi on December 19.
According to the PM, Vietnam is a country that values peace, righteousness, relationships, and fairness in its international cooperation.
“We consistently follow an independent and self-reliant foreign policy, with an emphasis on multilateralism and diversification of relations. We strive to be a good friend, a reliable partner to all nations, and an active and responsible member of the international community,” he stressed.
Having experienced much pain, sacrifice, and loss due to war, he said Vietnam deeply understands and cherishes the value of friendship, peace, cooperation, and development. It therefore remains committed to the “Four Nos” defense policy that is not joining military alliances, not aligning with one country to oppose another, not allowing foreign military bases or using its territory against any other country, and not using force or threatening to use force in international relations.
In his view, Vietnam is committed to building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army; and developing a robust national defense capacity to enhance its self-defense and protect the country in any circumstances.
The country focuses on developing a proactive, self-reliant, dual-purpose, modern defense industry that integrates internationally. It prioritizes research, development, and application of advanced scientific technologies in the defense industry to optimize dual-use capabilities, enhancing both national defense and economic development to serve the strategic interests of the country and the daily lives of its people.
The PM welcomed delegates, organisations and companies to the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 which he said serves as a symbol of trust, respect, and goodwill among nations working together for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous world.
He expressed his belief that the expo would be a great success, providing numerous opportunities for participating countries to share experience, exchange scientific and technological advancements, foster the development of military trade, and open up a promising future for cooperation.
