Vietnam and China prepare for Bilateral Cooperation Committee meeting

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, head of the Vietnam–China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, received He Wei Vi, Ambassador of China to Vietnam, in Hanoi on November 17, to prepare for the coming 17th meeting of the Steering Committee.

Son congratulated China on the successful organisation of the 4th plenum of the 20th Party Central Committee in October, which set out important strategic orientations for the formulation of the 15th five-year plan, creating a crucial foundation for China to continue pursuing high-quality development in the coming period.

Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated Ambassador He Wei and the Chinese Embassy for their close coordination in promoting exchanges and cooperation between the two countries across various fields, achieving many positive outcomes.

He expressed the hope that both sides would continue to work closely together to effectively organise high-level external activities and successfully convene the 17th Meeting of the Vietnam–China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, during which both sides will review cooperation progress and agree on directions and measures to concretise and implement the common understandings reached between the leaders of the two Parties and the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Son proposed that both sides give high priority to railway cooperation, ensuring that construction of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line begins later this year. He called for the early signing of protocols opening the Chinese market to additional Vietnamese agricultural products, further expansion of the smart border gate model, enhanced cooperation on electricity interconnection, and practical progress in science and technology cooperation.

He also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between localities and effectively implement people-to-people exchanges.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that both sides strictly implement high-level common understandings on better managing and resolving disagreements, and handle maritime issues appropriately in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Ambassador He Wei, for his part, agreed with his host’s directions and noted that 2025 marks a highly promising stage in China–Vietnam relations, especially following recent reciprocal visits by the General Secretaries and other key leaders of the two Parties and two countries. He stated that the two sides have carried out numerous rich and practical exchange activities, while economic and trade cooperation has grown strongly, continuously setting new records.

The Ambassador affirmed that he would make every effort to closely coordinate in organising high-level and other exchange activities, especially the 17th Meeting of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, and in promoting substantive cooperation between the two sides.

He stressed that these efforts would help produce meaningful outcomes, contributing to building a China–Vietnam Community with a Shared Future of strategic significance, advancing deeper, more effective cooperation that brings practical benefits to the people of both countries.
