China, Vietnam step up coordination on border management
VOV.VN - Delegations from the Border Guard Command of Vietnam's northern province of Dien Bien and the Pu’er border management unit of China’ Mengkang immigration inspection station met on November 11 for the annual border management talks.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Colonel Phan Van Hoa, Commander of the Dien Bien Border Guard, while the Chinese side was headed by Yang Chunlin, Political Commissar of the Pu’er border management unit.
The talks took place in a candid, open, and cooperative atmosphere, with both sides acknowledging the positive outcomes of their collaboration since the 12th meeting in 2024.
Under the leadership of their respective Parties and States, both sides have strengthened border and checkpoint management, contributing to political stability and social order in the border area. During the talks, participants reviewed cooperation in joint patrols, border control, and combatting cross-border crimes such as illegal entry, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cyber fraud. They also discussed information exchange through official channels, hotlines, and letters, procedures for returning illegal entrants, progress on the bilateral A Pa Chai (Vietnam)-Longfu (China) border gate, and friendship activities.
Both delegations agreed to further intensify coordination, focusing on fully implementing the "three legal documents" on the Vietnam-China land border, enhancing joint patrols, raising legal awareness among border residents, and ramping up efforts to combat and prevent cross-border crimes. They committed to improving procedures for verifying, returning, and handing over illegal entrants, aiming for feedback within seven working days.
The two sides will accelerate collaboration with local authorities to complete infrastructure and formalities for the official opening of the A Pa Chai-Longfu border gate, thereby boosting socio-economic development in the border area. They also plan to maintain and diversify channels for information exchange and grassroots cultural and friendship exchanges.
They underscored the importance of promoting cultural, sports, political and young officer exchanges, and “friendly post-station partnerships” initiatives. They will continue to visit, support, and celebrate each other during holidays and festivals, establish village-to-village and township-to-township friendship links, and connect communities on both sides as a way of contributing to the building of a peaceful, stable, and sustainable common border.
