US pledges close coordination with Vietnam to ensure APEC 2027 success
VOV.VN - The United States will work closely with Vietnam to help ensure the success of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2027, US Deputy Secretary of State Allison Hooker has said.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Washington DC between Hooker and Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, who is also Standing Vice Chair of the Vietnam National Committee for APEC 2027.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of Hang’s visit to the United States from February 2-6 to attend the sixth round of negotiations on a Vietnam–US reciprocal trade agreement.
Hooker congratulated Vietnam on the success of the recent 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and expressed confidence in Vietnam’s development prospects as well as the future of bilateral relations. She said the United States hopes to maintain the positive momentum in ties, including by working toward an early conclusion of a balanced and fair reciprocal trade agreement.
Hang reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States and seeks to deepen cooperation across areas such as trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation. She also briefed US officials on Vietnam’s development goals and foreign policy orientation following the recent Party Congress.
On APEC cooperation, Hang stressed that hosting APEC 2027 is one of Vietnam’s top multilateral diplomatic priorities in the coming period, noting that preparations are underway across all areas. She called on the United States to continue providing support and close coordination in the lead-up to the event.
Hooker praised Vietnam’s role and credibility as it prepares to host APEC for the third time, following previous editions in 2006 and 2017, and commended Hanoi’s proactive approach to preparations. She confirmed that the United States would coordinate closely with Vietnam to ensure a successful APEC 2027.
In separate meetings, US APEC Senior Official Casey Mace and leaders of the US National Center for APEC expressed confidence that Vietnam would successfully host APEC 2027, citing its experience and growing international standing.
US Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Charles Freeman said American businesses welcomed Vietnam’s development direction and recent reforms, and looked forward to participating in APEC 2027 activities, including the APEC CEO Summit scheduled to be held in Phu Quoc.
