Vietnam draws on China’s experience for APEC finance process in 2027
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Finance Minister Tran Quoc Phuong met with his Chinese counterpart Liao Min in Shanghai on February 3 to discuss Vietnam’s preparations for hosting the APEC Finance Ministers’ Process 2027.
The two sides exchanged views on priority themes for the APEC Finance Ministers’ Process in 2026, which China hosted, and shared information on Vietnam’s early preparations for assuming the host role in 2027.
Both officials underlined the importance of APEC and its finance ministers’ track as a key regional forum for economic policy dialogue and for nurturing ideas and initiatives on financial cooperation.
Phuong congratulated China’s Finance Ministry on its preparations for APEC 2026 and said Vietnam’s Finance Ministry would continue to work closely with its Chinese counterpart in APEC-related activities during the year.
Liao, for his part, outlined four priority areas China planned to promote for the APEC Finance Ministers’ Process in 2026, aligned with its national development strategies. These include fiscal policies to support households, financing for digital infrastructure, access to finance, and dialogue with young finance professionals.
He also offered suggestions for Vietnam as it considers possible themes for the APEC Finance Ministers’ Process in 2027.
Phuong said Vietnam and China face similar challenges in designing and managing fiscal and budgetary policies to support economic growth, particularly in identifying and fostering new growth drivers.
Vietnam, he added, would strengthen cooperation and experience-sharing to help shape 2027 priority themes that reflect the country’s strategic development goals, align with major Party and state resolutions, and remain consistent with the Incheon Plan on APEC’s five-year roadmap for financial cooperation.
Also on February 3, the Vietnamese delegation held technical working sessions with China’s Finance Ministry and the APEC Secretariat to exchange experience on substantive and logistical preparations for APEC activities, reflecting Vietnam’s early consultations and preparations for its 2027 host role.
