VOV.VN -On the morning of January 28 in southern An Giang Province, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the progress of key projects serving preparations for the APEC 2027 Economic Leaders’ Meeting, including Phu Quoc International Airport, Provincial Road DT.975, and the APEC Conference Centre and related facilities.
During his inspection of Phu Quoc International Airport, the Prime Minister stressed that the project is a national priority for APEC 2027, describing the meeting as a particularly important political and diplomatic task. He said the assignment demonstrates the trust of the Party and the State in An Giang province, while also presenting both urgent requirements and an opportunity to create breakthroughs in infrastructure, services and development space for the province and Phu Quoc Special Zone.
The Government leader called for accelerated site clearance to be carried out efficiently, while ensuring that relocated residents are provided with better living conditions. He also urged the application of special mechanisms under Government Resolution No. 66.4 of 2025 to resolve difficulties related to construction materials in line with the Law on Geology and Minerals.
He emphasized the need to speed up construction progress, mobilize contractors effectively, and ensure projects are completed on schedule with high technical standards, aesthetic quality, environmental protection and labour safety. For Phu Quoc International Airport, he highlighted the goals of greening, digitalising and optimising airport operations.
Earlier the same day, PM Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremonies for two mixed-use urban projects- Bai Dat Do and Nui Ong Quan eco-tourism urban complex.
The projects are expected to add around 12,000 hotel rooms, serviced apartments and commercial facilities, helping to meet accommodation requirements for APEC 2027 while contributing to the development of a new urban, hospitality and commercial landscape in Phu Quoc.
Addressing the ceremonies, the Government chief said hosting APEC 2027 is both an honour and a major responsibility, while calling on An Giang province, Phu Quoc Special Zone and local residents to work closely together to ensure the success of the event, as achieved previously in Hanoi and Da Nang.
He stressed that strategic infrastructure is a key pillar for the success of APEC 2027, and noted that the number of major projects serving the event is expected to exceed 21 as a contribution to enhancing Vietnam’s position and credibility in the international arena.
PM Chinh praised An Giang province, Phu Quoc Special Zone, investors and contractors, including Sun Group, for their proactive efforts and compliance with legal procedures.
He also urged ministries, agencies and local authorities to continue supporting businesses and residents in implementing APEC-related projects, while ensuring efficiency, quality and timely completion.
