Vietnam launches communication and cultural roadmap for APEC 2027
VOV.VN - Vietnam is stepping up preparations for APEC 2027, including strategic communication and cultural activities that play a role in promoting the country’s image as a proactive, dynamic, and responsible member of the international community.
Speaking at the first meeting of the Communication and Culture Subcommittee of the National Committee for APEC 2027 in Hanoi on December 22, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang noted that Vietnam’s hosting of APEC for the third time, following 2006 and 2017, is both a great honour and an important international responsibility. The event reflects the strong trust and confidence that APEC member economies place in Vietnam amid its deepening international integration.
Vietnam’s hosting of APEC 2027 will feature year-long activities, including five Senior Officials’ Meetings (SOMs), eight ministerial-level meetings, and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Phu Quoc, An Giang. Key events will include the Joint Ministerial Meeting on Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs, the APEC CEO Summit, and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
APEC 2027 presents a valuable opportunity to promote Vietnam’s image and showcase host localities, particularly Phu Quoc and An Giang, to international partners, said the diplomat.
According to the Deputy Minister, communication and cultural activities are expected to play a pioneering role throughout the APEC year, serving as a golden opportunity to present Vietnam as a country that is innovative, dynamic, culturally rich, and hospitable. The success of this work, she said, will be key to leaving a lasting impression of Vietnam as an active, constructive, and responsible member of the international community.
Under a decision issued by the National Committee for APEC 2027, the Communication and Culture Subcommittee will implement its work in three main phases.
The first phase, in 2026, will focus on preparations, including developing master plans and roadmaps, surveying venues, designing the APEC 2027 visual identity, building the official website, and producing communication materials.
The second phase, in 2027, will roll out high-impact communication campaigns linked to major APEC meetings and sectoral ministerial conferences. The third phase will centre on APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, with priorities including the operation of the International Media Centre, coordination of press activities, and the organisation of large-scale cultural and artistic events.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang called on all Subcommittee members to promptly translate the agreed roadmap into concrete action plans within their respective agencies and to work closely with the Standing Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure communication and cultural efforts remain one step ahead throughout the APEC 2027 process.
During the meeting, Subcommittee members contributed views on the draft roadmap and stressed the importance of close coordination among relevant agencies to ensure effective implementation. Participants agreed on the need to draw on lessons learned from APEC 2006 and 2017, while also adopting new approaches to ensure communication and cultural activities are carried out in a coordinated, comprehensive, and effective manner.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced a decision establishing the Communication and Culture Subcommittee, with Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang as head.
