Public Security Minister receives US Chargé d’Affaires in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang on April 23 received John W. McIntyre, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the United States in Vietnam.
Welcoming McIntyre on his new assignment, Quang expressed confidence that, with his experience and understanding, the US diplomat would make positive contributions to further strengthening and deepening bilateral ties in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He noted that more than 30 years after normalisation of relations and over two years since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership framework, Vietnam–US relations have achieved significant progress across multiple fields, particularly in economy, trade, investment, science and technology, and innovation.
Reaffirming Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation, the minister emphasised that the United States is one of Vietnam’s leading strategic partners.
He also spoke highly of cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and US law enforcement agencies, noting that such collaboration has contributed to ensuring national security and social order in both countries.
The minister further acknowledged the role of the US Embassy in Vietnam in promoting bilateral cooperation through delegation exchanges, information sharing, and the facilitation of high-level engagement.
For his part, McIntyre expressed his honor to take up his post in Vietnam at a time when bilateral relations are developing positively. He affirmed his commitment to working closely with Vietnamese authorities, including the Ministry of Public Security, to further advance cooperation in a more substantive and effective manner.
