Vietnam reaffirms strong Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with United States
VOV.VN - Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong told US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper in Hanoi on July 21.

At the meeting, Phuong highlighted positive outcomes in bilateral cooperation across various fields, including politics, economy, trade, education, and war legacy remediation, while praising the efforts of Knapper and the embassy staff for their contributions to the development of bilateral relations in the recent times.
He noted parliamentary cooperation as a bright spot in bilateral relations, contributing significantly from the reconciliation period after the war to the normalisation of relations, and now the comprehensive strategic partnership.
He requested Knapper to encourage the US to continue allocating resources to implement commitments made by the two countries’ leaders and to promote increased high-level visits and exchanges to deepen mutual understanding and political trust.
Knapper, for his part, affirmed the US commitment to closely coordinate with Vietnam in effectively implementing the partnership across all pillars, especially enhancing high-level contacts and expanding practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, education, defence, and war legacy remediation. He also emphasised the US’s continued support for Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals.
Also at the meeting, the senior legislator shared Vietnam’s key legislative orientations aimed at reforming and streamlining government apparatus, improving economic and social management efficiency, and deepening international economic integration, highlighting science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as top priorities and main drivers of modern productive forces.
He urged the Ambassador and the embassy to strengthen connections, promote cooperation, and support Vietnam in becoming a regional high-tech hub and a critical link in the global semiconductor supply chain, as well as pushing for US recognition of Vietnam’s market economy status and removal from strategic export control lists D1 and D3.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador expressed his strong impressions of Vietnam’s government efforts in implementing two-tier local administration reforms and commended the National Assembly’s vital role in national development, as demonstrated in the success of the recent 9th session of the legislature.
He also extended condolences over the recent maritime tragedy in Quang Ninh on July 19 and reaffirmed the US’s readiness to assist Vietnam in disaster prevention, search and rescue, and responses to extreme weather events.
The meeting took place as the two countries commemorate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (1995-2025).
