VOV.VN - Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son has said the state visit to China by Party General Secretary and President To Lam is a particularly important foreign activity between Vietnam and China this year that has reaped great success in all aspects.
Son said the Vietnamese leader had a busy schedule with 18 activities over two days. The two sides issued a joint statement on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and deepening the building of the Vietnam – China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance. Ministries, agencies and localities of the two countries signed many cooperation documents in various fields such as testing - quarantine, customs, health, communication, local cooperation and people’s livelihood.
During talks and meetings, the two sides reached a broad common consensus on further strengthening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in line with the six major orientations, focusing on concretizing common perceptions and agreements between both parties.
Based on the results of the visit, the minister said the two sides will maintain strategic visit exchanges between their top Party and State leaders to build on political trust and chart future cooperation orientations. They will fully promote the role of the Party channel and existing cooperation mechanisms such as the Vietnam - China Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, those between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China, between the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as well as defense, security and diplomatic exchange mechanisms.
The two sides will continue to concretize high-level common perceptions and signed agreements to take bilateral cooperation to new heights. Accordingly, they will seek to facilitate trade and expand the export of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products to the Chinese market; promote the strategic development connection between the two countries, and well implement the cooperation plan connecting the “Two Corridors, One Belt” Framework with the “Belt and Road” Initiative. They will step up ‘hard connection’ on high-speed railways, highways, and border gate infrastructure, and upgrade ‘soft connection’ to smart customs and smart border gates between the two countries.
The two sides will encourage and support businesses with real capacity, reputation and advanced technology to invest in each other’s territories, focusing on ramping up cooperation in agriculture and infrastructure, and expanding cooperation into new fields such as digital economy, circular economy, green development, clean energy, and renewable energy.
By declaring 2025 the Year of humanistic exchange between Vietnam and China, the two sides will jointly organize a series of activities to mark 75 years of bilateral diplomacy. They will enhance cultural exchange and media cooperation; foster cooperation in the fields of health care and natural disasters mitigation; and expand and improve the effectiveness of local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, especially with the younger generation. They will increase tourism cooperation; open more air routes; and encourage more and more tourists to travel to the other country.
The two sides will strengthen coordination and cooperation at multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), and support each other to run for election to international organizations.
According to Son, China supports Vietnam’s bid to host the APEC 2027 summit, join and increase its role at multilateral mechanisms. In addition, China also supports ASEAN in building an ASEAN Community of solidarity, unity, self-reliance and development, maintaining its central role in the regional structure.
With regard to maritime issues, the diplomat said the two sides will continue to implement high-level common perceptions, better control and actively resolve disagreements at sea. They stress the importance of preserving and promoting peace, stability, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and agree to handle disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The two sides will continue to coordinate effectively in implementing legal documents on land borders and related agreements, strengthen cooperation in the Vietnam-China land border area, and well organize activities marking 25 years of signing the Land Border Treaty and 15 years of signing three legal documents on the Vietnam - China land border this year.
