Party leader To Lam encourages Vietnam – China parliamentary cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam encouraged closer cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China through visit exchanges, during his meeting with Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, in Beijing on August 19.

To Lam, who is in Beijing for a three-day state visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, said the two parliaments should effectively implement and concretise their recently reached agreement on cooperation, increase the sharing of experience in lawmaking, and monitor the two governments in implementing common perceptions and agreements between senior leaders of the two countries.

The two sides should also provide mutual support at regional and world inter-parliamentary forums, and join hands in ensuring the enforcement of international treaties that both sides participate in, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

He respectfully invited Zhao Leji to visit Vietnam soon and co-chair the first meeting of the Vietnam-China inter-parliamentary cooperation mechanism alongside the Vietnamese National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.

Talking to the top legislator, To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of strengthening and developing cooperative and friendly relations with China, considering it a strategic choice and top priority in its foreign policy.

He congratulated China on the great achievements it recorded in successfully implementing the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society, overcoming difficulties and challenges, maintaining stability and developing comprehensively.

Zhao for his part affirmed that China considers Vietnam a priority direction in its neighbourhood diplomacy.

He noted that the two neighbouring countries have many things in common, including political regime, development path, social and cultural traditions. The two countries are currently building socialism in accordance with the specific situation and conditions of each country.

The Party, State and people of China wish to join the Party, State and people of Vietnam in constantly consolidating, preserving and promoting friendly and neighbourly relations, while actively realising the goal of building the Vietnam – China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, contributing to the building of modern socialism in each country, he stressed.

Zhao welcomed To Lam’s proposals, and said to realise high-level common perceptions the two sides should constantly improve infrastructure connectivity, especially for cross-border railway and road projects, and at the same time promote cross-border trade exchanges.

China is ready to import Vietnam’s key agricultural products, as well as to adequately handle territorial border issues, said Zhao, adding the two countries will work closely together to mark 75 years of their diplomacy in 2025.
