Hue International Music Week opens with global artists along Perfume River
VOV.VN - Hue International Music Week 2026 opened on June 13 with a vibrant riverside concert on the Perfume River, bringing together artists from Vietnam and around the world as part of the Hue Festival 2026.
Set against the poetic backdrop of the Perfume River, music became a bridge connecting diverse cultural traditions from across the globe. The opening night featured performances by Japanese J-pop artist Kawanishi Natsuki, Korean artistic groups, and performers from the Hue Royal Traditional Arts Theatre, offering audiences an engaging blend of contemporary creativity and traditional heritage.
More than a series of concerts, Hue International Music Week 2026 is envisioned as a cultural meeting point where audiences can experience artistic exchanges among different countries in one of Vietnam’s most iconic heritage settings.
Running from June 13 to 18, the event will welcome artists and performing groups from Vietnam, France, Spain, Australia, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Audiences can enjoy a diverse lineup ranging from pop music, contemporary dance and flamenco to fashion showcases, cultural performances, and traditional arts.
Among the international highlights are Compagnie Hervé Koubi from France, flamenco group Las Migas from Spain, French alternative-pop duo Ojojs, and Australian singer-songwriter Matthew Ifield. The festival also features prominent young Vietnamese artists, including My Anh and Mono.
One of the most anticipated events is a tribute concert honouring legendary Vietnamese songwriter Trinh Cong Son, scheduled for June 14. Held beside the Perfume River, a place closely associated with the late composer’s life and artistic legacy, the concert is expected to evoke strong emotions among music lovers.
According to Tran Huu Thuy Giang, vice chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, the festival will present 15 performances over six consecutive evenings, combining traditional and contemporary arts with the latest international performance trends.
“Hue International Music Week 2026 will feature 15 special performances that harmoniously blend traditional and contemporary arts, pop music, V-pop, K-pop, flamenco, and the latest international performance trends,” he said.
Organisers noted that all events are being staged in open public spaces and are free of charge for residents and visitors. The initiative aims to broaden public access to high-quality artistic performances while bringing cultural activities closer to the community.
With a diverse lineup of domestic and international artists and its unique riverside setting, Hue International Music Week 2026 is expected to become one of the standout attractions of this year’s Hue Festival, further reinforcing Hue’s identity as a heritage city, Vietnam’s festival capital, and an emerging cultural destination in the region.
