Da Lat exhibition marks 72nd anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory
VOV.VN - A special photo exhibition titled “Dien Bien Phu Victory – A Golden Milestone in History” is being held at the Lam Dong Museum in Da Lat, central Vietnam, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - 2026).
The exhibition features 72 historical photographs provided by the Dien Bien Phu Relics Management Board under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province. The collection captures the heroic 56-day-and-night campaign that led to one of the most significant victories in Vietnam’s modern history.
The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections.
The first section recreates the period leading up to the campaign, highlighting the immense preparations undertaken by Vietnamese forces and civilians, including artillery transport, road construction and the delivery of food and supplies to the battlefield.
The second section vividly portrays the intense 56-day battle, from the opening assault on Him Lam to the historic moment when the victory flag was raised atop General De Castries’ bunker on May 7, 1954.
The final section introduces present-day Dien Bien as a renewed cultural and historical destination that continues to preserve and promote patriotic traditions for younger generations.
According to Phan Nhan, deputy director of the Lam Dong Museum, the exhibition aims not only to revisit history but also to inspire patriotism and national pride, especially among younger generations.
“The careful preparation and close coordination with experts from the Dien Bien Phu Relics Management Board have helped create an engaging and meaningful exhibition,” he said, adding that the extended display period until May 20 is expected to broaden its public impact.
Visiting the exhibition on the anniversary day, Nguyen Do Minh Uyen, a tourist from northern Bac Ninh province, shared her emotions after touring the display.
“After seeing the entire exhibition, I understand more deeply the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory that resounded across the five continents and shook the world. It also makes me even prouder of Vietnam’s history and appreciate the value of peace today,” she said.
Another visitor, Nguyen Thanh Nguyen from the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, shared the historical images made a strong impression on him.
“Through these authentic and valuable historical photographs, I felt deeply emotional. When history is told through images, it becomes more accessible. These images help us better understand the resilience and sacrifices of previous generations, making us more proud, grateful and appreciative of what we have today,” he said.
The exhibition will remain open until May 20.
