Dien Bien promotes investment cooperation with Japan, France, Thailand

VOV.VN - Leaders of northern Dien Bien province on March 9 held separate meetings with delegations from the embassies of Japan, France and Thailand in Vietnam to discuss cooperation and investment opportunities.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam led by Hiromastu Mitsutaka, Second Secretary of the embassy, Tran Tien Dung, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Dien Bien provincial Party Committee, introduced the province’s development potential.

Dung highlighted local resources such as hot mineral springs, renewable energy including wind and solar power, forest resources, mineral deposits and favourable conditions for agriculture, particularly long-term crops with high economic value.

The province has identified three development priorities: improving infrastructure especially transport and tourism infrastructure, promoting tourism and further improving the investment and business environment.

Dien Bien hopes to strengthen cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and asked the embassy to help connect the province with Japanese enterprises and investors interested in exploring local opportunities.

The province also expressed its wish to organise investment promotion conferences with Japanese businesses and expand exchanges between localities, contributing to relations between Vietnam and Japan.

Through the delegation, Dung also invited representatives of the Japanese embassy to visit and work in Dien Bien in the near future.

Hiromastu Mitsutaka thanked provincial leaders for their warm reception and said the delegation would report the discussion to the Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam.

On the same day, Le Thanh Do, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, received a delegation from the Embassy of France in Vietnam led by Eric Soulier, Counsellor for Culture and Cooperation.

Do thanked the embassy for its support in recent years and expressed hope for continued cooperation in culture and education, particularly the programme linking the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum and the Caen Memorial Museum in France. Soulier said the French embassy plans to organise a working visit to Dien Bien later this month.

Both sides also discussed opportunities for cooperation in heritage preservation, culture and tourism development.

Also on March 9, Nguyen Van Doat, Vice Chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee, met with a delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy in Vietnam led by Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Vietnam.

In recent years, Dien Bien has expanded cooperation with localities in northern Thailand in areas such as external relations, education and training, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

On February 26, 2013, Dien Bien established friendly cooperation with Nan province of Thailand, creating conditions for delegation exchanges, investment exploration and cultural promotion. Between 2016 and 2025, the province sent 12 officials and students to study in Thailand.

Dien Bien is preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding on training cooperation with Udon Thani Rajabhat University for the 2025-2030 period, with a vision to 2035.

The province is also finalizing procedures to establish cooperation with the Thai provinces of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Dien Bien hopes these agreements will become highlights of upcoming commemorative activities and invited Thai localities and businesses to participate in the Northwest Border Trade Fair-Dien Bien 2026, while promoting Dien Bien tourism in Thailand.

Ambassador Urawadee Sriphiromya said Dien Bien boasts strong potential in tourism as well as agriculture and forestry. She added that the Thai embassy is ready to help connect Thai experts to support the province in training tourism personnel.

The ambassador also suggested developing cultural tourism routes linking Dien Bien with Thailand and encouraging Thai businesses to explore investment opportunities in the province, particularly in agricultural products and tourism services.

After the meeting, the Thai embassy delegation and provincial representatives visited an exhibition and performance titled “Traditional Thai Costume: Heritage of Queen Sirikit” at Muong Thanh pedestrian street in Dien Bien Phu ward.
