VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 8 paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial House at Hill E2 historical site and offered incense at the Temple dedicated to martyrs of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, as part of his working trip to the province.
The PM also visited and paid respects to fallen soldiers at the A1 National Martyrs’ Cemetery.
In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, Prime Minister Chinh and other officials laid flowers and offered incense in remembrance and profound gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the great national hero and world cultural figure who devoted his entire life to the cause of national liberation and the well-being of the people.
President Ho Chi Minh was regarded as a shining example of revolutionary ethics, embodying the virtues of diligence, thrift, integrity, righteousness and selflessness. He played a decisive role and served as the spiritual inspiration for the entire Party, army and people in securing the historic Dien Bien Phu victory in 1954.
The Prime Minister pledged to continue studying and following the late president’s ideology, morality and lifestyle, striving to fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to building a prosperous, civilised and happy Vietnam, where people enjoy increasingly better living conditions.
The Prime Minister then offered incense and flowers at the Temple dedicated to martyrs of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, expressing deep gratitude and remembrance for the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for national independence.
The Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7, 1954 remains a golden milestone in Vietnam’s history and an immortal epic of the Vietnamese people. After 56 days and nights of fierce fighting under extremely harsh conditions, Vietnamese soldiers and people achieved a resounding victory that was famously described as “resounding across the five continents and shaking the world.”
The temple commemorating martyrs of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield was built on Hill F, located to the east of Hill A1. The hill once held strategic military importance as a position used by Vietnamese forces to control the area and launch attacks toward Hill A1. Many Vietnamese soldiers lost their lives there during the fierce battles, which is why the hill is also known as the “hill of death.”
At the A1 Martyrs’ Cemetery, the final resting place of many fallen soldiers including national heroes To Vinh Dien, Phan Dinh Giot, Be Van Dan and Tran Can along with 641 comrades who sacrificed their lives during the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the Prime Minister and the delegation solemnly paid tribute to their bravery and sacrifice.
In a sacred and respectful atmosphere, the leader and members of the delegation bowed their heads in remembrance of General Vo Nguyen Giap and the heroic soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives in Dien Bien.
The delegation expressed their hope that the spirits of the fallen heroes and compatriots who sacrificed their lives during the Dien Bien Phu campaign would rest in eternal peace and continue to bless the nation with peace, stability and prosperity.
