Can Tho sets record with giant Vietnam map made of sticky rice, coconut milk

VOV.VN - Can Tho City has set a national record for the largest map of Vietnam made from sticky rice and coconut milk during the 13th Southern Folk Cake Festival, held from April 26 to May 1 in 2026.

The artwork measures 2 metres in width, 2.6 metres in length and 10.3 centimetres in thickness, weighing between 550 and 600 kilograms. It recreates the shape of Vietnam’s territory in a detailed and creative culinary form.

A total of 103 artisans and professional chefs from across the Mekong Delta took part in the project, symbolising the 103 communes and wards of Can Tho City. The event highlighted collective craftsmanship and regional culinary expertise.

The activity was part of the Southern Folk Cake Festival and Hung Kings Commemoration Day 2026, attracting thousands of visitors, including domestic and international tourists.

According to the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the installation carries cultural significance by combining culinary art with traditional folk heritage, while promoting the value of Vietnamese cuisine and the distinctive identity of the southern region.
