The cultural exchange program took place with the theme ‘Cultural space of the southern region’ and aims to introduce young delegates of SSEAYP to Vietnam’s history, culture, people,its land as well as with the Doi Moi (Renewal) process.
During the event, international youths explored and experienced the cultural characteristics of Vietnam’s southern region by gaining insights into the art of Don ca tai tu music and songs in southern Vietnam, calligraphy art, and enjoyed traditional costumes such as wearing an ao ba ba (a blouse worn by southerners).
Representatives from the HCMC Youth Cultural House proudly highlighted the unique folk musical art of Don ca tai tu as the art form was recognized by UNESCO as a piece of intangible cultural heritage. This was also the art form that local youths wished to introduce to young international delegates along with the lifestyles of southerners.
Nguyen Van Hieu, deputy director of the HCMC Youth Cultural House, expressed his wish to introduce the southern region, which boasts a range of diversified art forms, specialties and other unique aspects of local life to youths from across ASEAN countries in the future.
