Vietnam imports more than 1,400 Thai cars in 1 week

VOV.VN - In the week from June 15-21, 1,431 completely built-up (CBU) cars were imported into Vietnam with a total value of nearly US$30 million, 96% of them were from Thailand, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Of the imported vehicles, 542 were cars with fewer than nine-seats from Thailand, accounting for 97% of the total of cars with fewer than nine-seats. In other vehicle trade, 836 out of the total 857 imported trucks also originated from Thailand. No trucks were imported from China. These trucks were registered for import at three major points in the country at Hai Phong port (538 units), Ho Chi Minh City (193 units) and Hanoi (126 units).

For specialized cars, Vietnam bought 17 units worth nearly US$1.7 million, including 7 from China, 3 from the Republic of Korea and 2 from France.

Meanwhile, just 162 CBU cars were imported in the previous week (from June 8-14) with a value of more than US$6.4 million.

This week is the third to have seen no cars with fewer than nine-seats imported from China.
