Vietnamese outbound travel booms, Hong Kong airlines increase flights
VOV.VN - The Vietnam–Hong Kong (China) air route is experiencing a strong resurgence as airlines ramp up flight frequencies and prepare to launch several new international routes.

Dao Hoang Hai Linh, Head of Sales at Cathay Pacific Vietnam, said starting October 26, the airline will raise the number of weekly round-trip flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hong Kong from 24 to 30 to meet growing travel demand between the two destinations.
Currently, HK Express, part of the Cathay Group, is operating 49 flights per week from Hanoi, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, and Phu Quoc to Hong Kong.
The combined operations of the two brands are significantly enhancing air connectivity between Vietnam and Hong Kong, supporting both tourism and bilateral trade.
Cathay Pacific now connects to over 100 global destinations. In 2025, the airline plans to expand further with new routes to Xinjiang (China), Dallas (USA), and Munich (Germany), and resume flights to Rome (Italy), Brussels (Belgium), Adelaide (Australia), and Changsha (China).
Notably, the Hong Kong–Dallas route, launched in April 2025 with four flights per week, will see a frequency increase to daily flights starting October 2025.
“Dallas is a key gateway to the US and has become increasingly attractive to Vietnamese travelers,” Linh noted.
According to the Vietnam’s National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Hong Kong has surged over the past two years, driven by Hong Kong’s e-visa policy and intensified tourism promotion efforts. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) reported that from January to July 2025, the city welcomed over 39,000 Vietnamese visitors, up 46.6% year on year.
However, this number could rise further, as Hong Kong’s visa application process remains relatively lengthy compared to many other Asian destinations, averaging around three weeks and requiring supporting documents such as proof of employment and financial status.
Meanwhile, the number of Hong Kong travelers to Vietnam is also rebounding rapidly, fueled by the expansion of direct flight routes and the appeal of popular resort destinations like Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Nha Trang, which are increasingly seen as premier getaway spots in the region.
