Vietnam Airlines passengers required to complete procedures via VNeID

VOV.VN - Vietnam Airlines on December 1 began enforcing a new policy requiring all passengers without checked baggage to complete the entire travel process, including ticket purchase, check-in, security procedures, and boarding, through the government’s digital ID application VNeID or airport self-service kiosks.

The change follows Directive No. 24, issued on September 13 by the Prime Minister, aimed at accelerating the application of digital technologies linked to national population data and electronic identification.

Under the new procedure, passengers must use biometric authentication integrated with their VNeID account or complete check-in at airport kiosks. Vietnam Airlines said the shift is intended to reduce waiting time, improve accuracy through biometric verification, and minimise the risk of missed flights due to forgotten physical identification documents.

The carrier recommended that passengers upgrade their VNeID accounts to Level 2 verification for full functionality and smoother processing.

To check in, passengers log in to VNeID, select “Other Services,” then “Aviation Services,” and proceed with online check-in. After consenting to data sharing, the system redirects to the airline’s app for final verification and eKYC completion.

At the airport, travelers simply undergo biometric scanning at security checkpoints and boarding gates. Those who have checked in but have not completed eKYC will be prompted to finalise verification directly within VNeID.

Vietnam Airlines advised passengers to install both its own mobile app and VNeID in advance to ensure seamless data integration. Although the process is now digital, travelers are encouraged to carry their ID cards or passports during the initial rollout.

Additional staff will be deployed at airports to assist passengers unfamiliar with VNeID or those encountering issues such as forgotten passwords or unstable network connections.

The new digital check-in system applies only to domestic flights operated by Vietnam Airlines Group, including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and Vietnam Air Services Company (Vasco). Passengers who have checked in but still need to complete eKYC can do so within VNeID by re-accessing “Aviation Services” and entering their booking reference or ticket number.
