Quanh Ninh attracts high-end Indian wedding tourism
VOV.VN - Rather than traditional hotspots like Dubai or the Maldives, a growing number of Indian billionaire families are choosing Quang Ninh city in northern Vietnam, to host lavish wedding celebrations.
From now through the end of 2026, the city expects to host three more large-scale weddings at luxury resorts such as InterContinental Halong Bay and FLC Grand Hotel Halong, each expected to draw between 1,000 and 1,600 guests.
In fact, Quang Ninh has already hosted around 10 major weddings for India's ultra-wealthy. Notable events include a wedding in early 2024 that brought up to 500 staff members from India for logistical support, and a series of celebrations in early 2026 with an estimated budget of roughly US$3 million (about VND 78.5 billion). These events featured unique venues, blending luxury resorts along Ha Long Bay, overnight cruises on the Ambassador yacht, and cave banquets (such as in Ngoc Rong Cave) enhanced by 3D mapping technology.
Launching these events requires extensive logistics, including transporting culinary ingredients, deploying chefs and performing artists, and designing traditional South Asian aesthetics paired with modern technology.
The surge in high-end destination weddings highlights the unique appeal of Ha Long Bay. In the January-September period of 2026, the locality welcomed approximately 70,000 Indian visitors. Alongside billionaire weddings, Quang Ninh has also attracted Bollywood film crews, such as the production team for the movie Silaa, opening strategic pathways to stimulate high-end resort tourism, event tourism, and effectively promote Vietnam's tourism profile globally.
