Nearly 60 million passengers pass through airports in H1 2025

VOV.VN - In the first half of 2025, the number of passengers passing through Vietnam’s airports is estimated to have reached approximately 59.7 million, an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Of the total, international passengers accounted for 22.9 million, up 12.9%, while domestic passengers hit 36.8 million, a 6.9% rise.

Vietnamese airlines carried 28 million passengers during this period, including 9.6 million foreign passengers, up 8%, and 18.4 million domestic passengers, up 7%.

Regarding cargo, the volume handled through airports in the first half of the year totaled about 811,400 tonnes, a 12.5% increase year on year. Of this, international cargo made up 580,000 tonnes, up 17.7%, while domestic cargo accounted for 231,400 tonnes, up 1.3%.

The total volume of cargo transported across the entire aviation market increased by 14.6% to 695,700 tonnes, including 108,000 tonnes of international cargo, up 12.1%, and 115,700 tonnes of domestic cargo, up 1.3%.

The Civil Aviation Authority noted that the aviation market continues to recover strongly, especially in the international segment, with robust growth in both passenger and cargo services.

The expansion of international operations and partnerships has helped national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines achieve strong profits in 2024 and early 2025. The airline plans to launch 15 new international routes this year, including newly added routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Bali and Nha Trang - Busan from June, as well as Hanoi - Milan and Da Nang – Osaka, starting in July.

Meanwhile, Budget airline Vietjet has also expanded its international network, by launching its first direct flights between Vietnam and Russia in June, connecting the coastal city of Nha Trang with three major cities in Russia’s Far East, namely Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and Blagoveshchensk. Prior to this, the airline inaugurated a direct route between Singapore and Phu Quoc, contributing to international tourism and trade growth.
