Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism revenue hits VND172 trillion in four months

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism sector generated an estimated VND172 trillion (US$6.6 billion) in revenue , equivalent to 52.1% of the city’s yearly target during the past four months of 2026, as it continued its strong recovery.

According to information released on May 9 by the municipal Department of Tourism, the city welcomed around 4.78 million international visitors during the four-month period, reaching 43.5% of its annual target, while domestic tourist arrivals were estimated at 19.2 million.

Tourism revenue during the period reaffirms tourism as one of Ho Chi Minh City’s key economic growth drivers.

During the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and April 30-May 1 holiday period from April 25 to May 3, the city received an estimated 190,000 international visitors and 1.5 million domestic tourists. Tourism revenue during the holiday period stood at VND8.7 trillion.

Notably, the city also welcomed a MICE delegation of nearly 890 visitors from Indonesia, staying at multiple hotels across the city from May 1-9. According to the Department of Tourism, this continued to demonstrate Ho Chi Minh City’s appeal to the international MICE segment.

Alongside visitor growth, the city has also stepped up tourism stimulus programs and the development of new tourism products.

Under its 2026 tourism stimulus program, it introduced nearly 1,000 new tourism products and services. Meanwhile, the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival recorded estimated revenue of more than VND120 billion from tour sales, services and tourism products.

Several nighttime tourism products continue attracting visitors, including the “Trăng chiến khu” (Moon over the War Zone) night tour at the Cu Chi Tunnels, “Retro Rides Saigon by Night,” and the Chợ Lớn Night Tour, which is being upgraded to further promote cultural values and the nighttime economy in Chợ Lớn.

In addition, the helicopter tour product “Viewing the City from Above” has initially received positive feedback, particularly from international visitors.

The Department of Tourism said the city would continue focusing on developing community-based tourism, ecotourism and nighttime economy initiatives while strengthening tourism promotion efforts and preparing for major events, including the eighth edition of the Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon in 2026 and the 20th Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo (ITE HCMC 2026).
