First Vietnam eco resort receives Good Travel Seal certification
VOV.VN - Làng Nhỏ Eco Resort, located in Dien Tho commune, Khanh Hoa province, has been awarded the international Good Travel Seal, becoming the first tourism facility in Vietnam to receive the sustainable tourism certification from Green Destinations.
Làng Nhỏ operates as a pop-up resort model, using modular and flexible structures that adapt to local terrain and can be dismantled and relocated, minimising environmental impact from the construction phase. Covering an area of 165 hectares, the resort also runs on a fully off-grid green energy system, without reliance on the national electricity grid, and aims to operate in line with net-zero principles.
Nguyen Manh Binh San, owner of Làng Nhỏ and chief executive officer of Natural Life Holding, said investment costs for a pop-up resort are less than half those of a traditional resort of similar scale.
More importantly, he said, the model allows operators to adjust capacity based on seasonal demand and ecological carrying capacity, reducing long-term pressure on surrounding ecosystems and improving resilience to increasingly unpredictable weather conditions.
Rather than imposing construction on the natural landscape, facilities are designed to follow existing terrain, limit land levelling and preserve natural ecosystems. Project lifecycles, including dismantling and site restoration after use, are factored in from the outset, helping ensure long-term environmental recovery.
Since opening in 2022, Làng Nhỏ has welcomed around 15,000 overnight guests annually. The resort operates on a “conservation-first” principle, prioritising environmental protection, cultural preservation and the restoration of natural resources used during operations.
San said the company plans to develop additional nature-based resorts along Vietnam’s central coast over the next five years, aiming to help build a sustainable tourism community in the country.
The Good Travel Seal is an international certification system developed by Netherlands-based Green Destinations, within the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) framework, which is recognised and recommended by UN Tourism and multiple governments.
Unlike certifications based primarily on commitments or policies, the Good Travel Seal focuses on assessing real-world practices, including how tourism facilities are designed, built and operated to reduce environmental impact, use resources efficiently and engage with local communities.
