Vietnam imported more than 56,500 tonnes of poultry meat from Europe in 2025, making it the second-largest buyer in Southeast Asia after the Philippines, according to data from the European Commission (EC).

Vietnam expects its agricultural export value to China to increase sharply this year, as China agreed to review regulations permitting official exports of poultry meat from Vietnam to this market.

Vietnam imported more than 60,800 tonnes of meat and meat products worth US$124.85 million in July, a year-on-year fall of 1.1% and 11.2%, respectively, according to the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Vietnam is one of the countries with the largest total poultry population in the world, with up to 551.4 million heads being raised across the country in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year rise of 2.4%.

VOV.VN - Poultry meat exports have shown signs of recovery since the beginning of the year, according to the Department of Livestock Husbandry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam has so far earned US$361 million from exporting poultry meat and eggs to 26 countries worldwide, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported.

VOV.VN - Every year sees each Vietnamese person consumes roughly 55kg to 57kg of meat of all kinds, as well as between 130 to 135 eggs, equal to between 70% and 80% of other Asian countries such as Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Vietnam spent nearly US$190 million on importing about 89,000 tonnes of pork in the first ten months of this year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

China was Vietnam’s largest meat buyer, among its 14 foreign markets, in October, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency of Foreign Trade.
