Vietnamese poultry meat exports increase

VOV.VN - Poultry meat exports have shown signs of recovery since the beginning of the year, according to the Department of Livestock Husbandry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam earned US$1.6 million from exporting poultry meat in February, marking a two-fold increase compared to January and higher than the US$86,500 in revenue recorded in the same period in 2022.

After exporting the first batch of processed chicken to Japan, businesses successfully negotiated with other importers from Hong Kong (China), Russia, Belarrus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan to export Vietnamese chicken meat.

The Republic of Korea (RoK) was the biggest importer of Vietnamese poultry meat throughout the reviewed period, accounting 28.6% market share, followed by Malaysia and China.

The export value of poultry eggs reached more than US$501,500 in February, a figure two times higher than the same period from last year.

Meanwhile, the RoK was also the largest supplier of chicken meat to Vietnam, with a volume exceeding 6,000 tonnes worth more than US$7.6 million in February, up 136.9% in volume and up 127.9% in value over the previous month.

In the first two months of this year, imports of chicken meat from the Korean market reached 8,500 tonnes, worth nearly US$11 million, down 24.2% in volume and 21.1% in value year on year.

In March, the largest chicken meat export markets to Vietnam were the United States, accounting for 34.0% of the total market share, the Republic of Korea with 29.2%, and Brazil at 22.7%.

The department said poultry farming developed stably in the first quarter of the year, with a population of about 551.4 million, 563,200 tonnes of meat, and 4.7 billion eggs, respectively increasing by 2.4%, 4.2%, and 4.5% year on year.
